LG Soft India and CUSAT Collaborate on Smart Home Tech Lab

Kochi, August 28: LG Soft India, the R&D division of LG Electronics, has forged a partnership with the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) to establish an advanced research lab focused on smart home technology within the university campus, according to a statement from CUSAT.

This collaborative initiative aims to tackle the significant challenges in the burgeoning smart home sector.

University officials revealed that with financial support amounting to Rs one crore over a span of three years, CUSAT will set up the research lab, equipped with essential academic and technical resources.

"The Rs one crore funding spread over three years will facilitate the establishment of the lab and provide research support," said Santhosh Kumar G, Professor in Computer Science and Director of the Centre for Information Resource Management at CUSAT.

The research facility will concentrate on devising solutions to connectivity issues within the smart home ecosystem, ensuring seamless communication among various Internet of Things (IoT) devices irrespective of their manufacturer.

The lab aims to overcome this fragmentation to ensure a consistent and reliable smart home experience.

Furthermore, the partnership will harness the capabilities of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to introduce a higher level of intelligence to home environments.

This involves creating systems that can proactively anticipate user needs, automate tasks, and offer a personalized, intuitive experience.

According to university representatives, this collaboration blends LG Soft India’s vast industry expertise in product development and innovation with CUSAT’s academic strength and research prowess.

It marks a crucial step towards building connected, intelligent living spaces that are both efficient and user-friendly, added CUSAT officials.
